CRASH - Irony and Karma Crash is one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. Half an hour into Crash I was afraid that I was watching just another movie about stupid people doing stupid things. Masterful in plot, acting and cinematography, the movie was still very ugly in its portrayal of the most racist and base elements of human nature. I remember thinking that it has all been done before, all-be-it not as forcefully or with such masterful craftsmanship. And then the whole direction of the film subtly shifted in a positive direction. The ugliness evaporated, displaced by an inexplicable hope and warm glow. Crash is a poetic display of ironic karma. It is a testimony to the fact that the universe is unfolding as it should. I came away hoping that the vision presented in the movie is an accurate reflection of our reality. ~August, 2005 |
