| From the back
cover: A
loose adaptation of the Marquis De Sade's "The 120 Days of Sodom", Paolo
Pasolini's Salo is perhaps the most disturbing and disgusting film
ever made.
It goes on to praise the
moral issues and treatment of fascism, but quite frankly, I had difficulty
seeing any redemptive value, and kept hoping that the credits were coming
soon.
The film follows a group
of teenage boys and girls abducted by Italian fascists during the Second
Worl War. They are taken to a mansion which is also a brothel and are
subjected to all manner of indecencies by visiting fascist dignitaries.
Pasolini is a renowned Italian filmmaker, well known for his films of social
and political comment. His other movies are disturbing enough.
This one, though, reaches a depth of darkness that is hard to justify.
