| For decades
we’ve talked about the effect of media violence (both fictional and
journalistic) on the thinking of our society; -how we might become
desensitized to it.
Based on a true story
turned into a book by Jim Schutze , "Bully" shows how a group of
teenagers alter their reality structure and rationalize their way into a
paradigm where they feel it is OK to murder a boy who has been very
abusive to them. I feel that the movie even forces the viewer into
wondering whether they would have done the same thing in a similar situation. You get a
really good step by step look inside the thoughts of many of the
characters as they slowly rationalize themselves into murder. I
particularly like the ending, where many of the characters are in total
denial, not even willing to admit to themselves that the murder took
place, even though they played a role.
I felt that the
sometimes graphic sexual scenes in the movie detracted from the central
idea. Be prepared for an intense film.
