The following is a list of the most disturbing movies which I have come across. This does not mean that they are "bad" movies, -in fact many of them are excellent and even award winning. They are movies which portray the darker side of human nature. Sometimes this is done in order to expose things that we refuse to see, such as the horror of living conditions for some people.  In other cases it is to provide a shocking warning about the direction we are traveling . They are not "warm-fuzzy" movies and are only entertaining in a dark sort of way.

Almost half of the movies involve young people. With these the horrors come from what we are doing to young people and what kind of a world we are leaving for them, ... or forcing them into. One of the most disturbing things one can witness is the destruction of the hope of the future.  Many of the essays on this site deal with the same theme.
